The ultimate deep-cleaning checklist for your Atlanta home
A deep clean is more than a tidy-up. It reaches the surfaces routine cleaning skips: the tops of door frames, the grout, the vent covers, the strip of floor behind the toilet. Whether you are getting ready for guests, working through spring cleaning or handing a property back, this is the room-by-room order that keeps you from cleaning the same square metre twice.
Work top to bottom, back to front
Dust falls. If you vacuum before you dust the ceiling fan you will vacuum again. Start high in every room, finish with the floor, and work away from the door so you are not walking back across what you have just cleaned. Gather everything first: microfibre cloths, an all-purpose cleaner, a bathroom disinfectant, glass cleaner, and a vacuum with a crevice tool and a brush head.
Kitchen
- Degrease the cabinet fronts, the backsplash and the range hood filter
- Clean inside the microwave and wipe down appliance exteriors and handles
- Descale the sink, then polish the tap and the drain
- Pull the small appliances forward and wipe underneath them
- Wipe the worktops, then vacuum and mop the floor last
The part people skip
The top edge of cabinet doors and the gap between the cooker and the counter collect a film of airborne grease that will not come off with water alone. A degreaser and a few minutes of dwell time do the work for you.
Bathrooms
- Apply disinfectant to the toilet, tub and shower first and let it sit while you do everything else
- Scrub the tile and grout, then rinse from the top down
- Polish the mirror and the chrome fixtures dry so they do not spot
- Wipe the switch plates, the door handles and the skirting boards
- Wash or replace the bath mat and empty the bin
Bedrooms and living areas
- Dust the ceiling fan blades, light fittings and air vents
- Wipe the skirting boards, window sills and door frames
- Clean the interior glass and the mirrors
- Vacuum the upholstery, including under the cushions
- Vacuum the floor, then move what you can and vacuum under it
Keeping the shine between visits
Consistency beats effort. A fifteen-minute daily reset, dishes away, worktops wiped, one floor spot-cleaned, keeps buildup from ever getting ahead of you. Everything on the list above then takes minutes instead of an afternoon the next time you work through it.
